MAAD Museum Opens in Adria with Inaugural Exhibition Featuring Yoko Ono, Beuys, and Stefano Cagol

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The MAAD (Museo d'Arte di Adria e del Delta del Po) has opened in Adria, in the province of Rovigo, housed in the premises of the Fondazione Scolastica Carlo Bocchi. The museum is managed by the municipality and the Fondazione Bocchi, a non-economic legal entity supporting schools and students through scholarships. It comprises a historical section featuring old master prints by Jacques Callot, Albrecht Dürer, and Salvator Rosa from the Collezione Bocchi, along with historical-artistic artifacts from medieval and modern Adria, while the ancient period is represented by the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Adria. The contemporary section serves as an exhibition space. The inaugural show, "Attraverso, una visione oltre" (Through, a vision beyond), curated by Tobia Donà, juxtaposes works by established artists such as Yoko Ono, Joseph Beuys, Sol LeWitt, Gino De Dominicis, Gilbert and George, Hermann Nitsch, Luigi Ontani, and Fabrizio Plessi with younger artists including Stefano Cagol from Trentino. Donà stated that a common thread unites all works: "the vision beyond, through which they have embodied the role of artists." Despite differing intentions and methodologies, the artists share a tension to look beyond the surface of things, where past anticipations resonate in contemporary works and social contingencies become universal reflections.
