MA*GA Museum's Education Department Celebrates 20 Years with Artist Video

institutional · 2026-05-04

The MA*GA museum in Gallarate commissioned artist Riccardo Arena to create a video celebrating the 20th anniversary of its education department. Collaborating with Silvia Porro from AUSER, Islay Dunlop, and students from I.S.S. Falcone, the video highlights two decades of artistic and pedagogical research. It features archival images showcasing projects with schools (from nursery to secondary), teen programs based on work-study alternation (active since 2008, involving over 1,000 students annually), artist collaborations, adult and teacher training, family events, and accessibility initiatives. For 2018, new projects include workshops with Arena, Valerio Rocco Orlando, and Lorenzo Conti; specialized labs for the Kerouac. Beat painting exhibition; a permanent weaving workshop; and a didactic garden project with Ricola. Emma Zanella, who co-founded the department in 1998, called it an indispensable asset and the museum's backbone for public dialogue.
