MA*GA Gallarate Opens Major Dadamaino Retrospective

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The MA*GA museum in Gallarate presents a comprehensive retrospective of Dadamaino (Edoarda Emilia Maino, 1930–2004), running from December 17, 2023 to April 7, 2024. Curated by Flaminio Gualdoni, the exhibition features 80 works spanning her career, from the Volumi (1958–60) to the large-scale installations shown at the Venice Biennale in 1990. Dadamaino was the only woman alongside Yayoi Kusama invited to the landmark 1962 Nul exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. The show traces her evolution through Azimuth, optical-kinetic works with GRAV, and her later conceptual pieces. Concurrently, the museum opens solo shows by Michele Ciacciofera and Giovanni Campus, marking a new season. MA*GA, now a participatory entity of the Lombardy Region, positions itself as a research center and cultural industry.
