M+ Museum Receives Major Hong Kong Art Donation from William and Lavina Lim

Hong Kong's M+ museum has secured a significant donation of 90 artworks from architect William Lim and his wife Lavina Lim. The collection features pieces by 53 artists, with 26 hailing from Hong Kong including Yeung Tong Lung, Au Hoi Lam, Lam Tung Pang, Tang Kwok-hin, Nicole Wong, and Morgan Wong. International artists represented include Lee Bul with Untitled Sculpture W6-2 (2010) and Haegue Yang's Underwater Ventilation (2011). William Lim described the donation as a 'time capsule' for preserving Hong Kong's artistic legacy. M+ director Suhanya Raffel and deputy director Doryun Chong emphasized how this acquisition strengthens the museum's focus on Hong Kong visual culture. The Lims began collecting in the 2000s, displaying works in their Wong Chuk Hang studio under the 'Living Collection' title, which documented the city's flourishing art scene. M+, managed by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, has faced multiple delays including contractor issues and a sinkhole, pushing its opening to autumn 2021. The museum recently appointed Betty Fung Ching Suk-yee as acting CEO following Duncan Pescod's resignation in November. The 'Living Collection' will be publicly displayed after M+ opens.
