cultural-heritage · 2026-05-04

M-Children, a cutting-edge interactive learning space for children aged 4 to 12, opened on March 28, 2018, within the M9 innovation district in Mestre, Italy. The 110-million-euro project, funded by the Fondazione di Venezia, aims to create a 'small smart city' and is set to fully open in December 2018. M-Children features interactive installations by Zebra Mapping, a Vicenza-based creative collective, designed to engage children with art and music through intuitive, sensor-based experiences. The space includes 90-minute workshops led by professionals, focusing on creativity, emotional exploration, and reimagining the city. The overall M9 project, designed by Berlin-based Sauerbruch Hutton, involves the renovation of a 16th-century convent and spans over 10,000 square meters, with 950,000 hours of work invested. It promises to be one of Europe's most innovative technological hubs, combining multimedia culture, sustainable architecture, and citizen services.
