Lyon Biennale 2019: Kolossal Installations at Usines Fagor and MAC
The 2019 Lyon Biennale has opened, transforming the vast former industrial space Usines Fagor and the MAC museum into a sprawling exhibition of large-scale site-specific installations. At Usines Fagor, visitors encounter a blend of technology and lo-fi aesthetics, with performers like Malin Bulow integrated into the architecture, posthuman distilleries by Thomas Feuerstein, and mechanical doll dances by Fernando Palma Rodriguez. Nico Vascellari presents an encounter between animal and automobile. At the MAC, Renée Levi's wall painting spans nearly an entire floor, while Daniel Dewar & Grégory Gicquel display wooden furniture and sculptures across two floors, and Jenny Feal creates postapocalyptic meditation spaces. The main exhibition also includes two public installations in the city center by Trevor Young and Shana Moulton.
