Lynda Benglis and Mia Westerlund Roosen exhibitions in New York galleries through April 3, 2004
Two significant sculpture exhibitions opened in New York galleries in early 2004. Lynda Benglis: A Sculpture Survey, 1969-2004 at Cheim & Read presents a comprehensive overview of the artist's work spanning 35 years. The exhibition runs until April 3 at 547 W. 25th Street, between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues. Benglis, once considered an enfant terrible of the New York School, has established herself as a major figure in contemporary sculpture. Concurrently, Mia Westerlund Roosen: Namesake at Lennon, Weinberg, Inc. features new sculptures and drawings by the artist. This exhibition also continues through April 3 at 560 Broadway, Suite 308, at Prince Street. A third exhibition, Kim Jones: escape from flatland, runs from February 13 to March 15, 2004 at 177 North 9th Street in Brooklyn. The Benglis survey represents a significant retrospective of her sculptural practice during a crucial period of artistic development. Both exhibitions showcase established artists working in three-dimensional forms during the same timeframe in New York City.
