Lygia Clark Retrospective at Kunsthaus Zürich Features 120 Works and 50 Participatory Replicas

exhibition · 2026-04-19

From 14 November to 8 March, Kunsthaus Zürich will host the first extensive Lygia Clark retrospective in a German-speaking nation. This exhibition showcases 120 original works alongside 50 interactive replicas created in collaboration with Berlin's Neue Nationalgalerie. Lygia Clark, who was born in Belo Horizonte in 1920 and lived in Rio de Janeiro until her passing in 1988, moved away from traditional art forms, focusing instead on sensory experiences. She was a key figure in the Neoconcretismo movement during Brazil's late 1950s, transitioning through four distinct phases, including the Bichos series in the 1960s and Caminhando in 1963. In the 1970s, her art emphasized bodily interaction amid Brazil's modernization, impacting contemporary artists like Ernesto Neto and Pipilotti Rist.
