Lydia Ourahmane's coin-operated Venice show uses hotel bedlinen and quarantine island pier
British-Algerian artist Lydia Ourahmane, 33, has created a coin-operated exhibition in Venice that draws entirely from the city itself. The show includes a sculpture made from 1.3 tonnes of hotel bedlinen and a pier built for a former quarantine island. Ourahmane has been living in an apartment on the Giudecca with views over the water to the main Venetian island. Her exhibition opens to coincide with the Venice Biennale, the art world's largest global gathering. Unlike the typical biennale practice of shipping artworks from around the world, Ourahmane's work has sprung from Venice itself. She divides her time between Barcelona and Algiers.
