Lydia Ourahmane's '5 Works' at Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation Engages Venice's Local Needs
Lydia Ourahmane's solo exhibition '5 Works' at the Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation in Venice presents artworks developed from local collaborations during her year-long residency in the Giudecca district. The show includes a 975-centimeter platform made of wood and galvanized iron, created with the organization Poveglia per tutti, which will become a permanent dock for the island's future park. Another piece, 'Offerta Luce €1', is an old light box from the church of San Giovanni Grisostomo that once illuminated Giovanni Bellini's 1513 painting; the foundation donated a new fixture in exchange. The work '1.3 tons of decommissioned bed linen from 200 Venetian hotels' piles hotel sheets in cage trollies, disrupting their usual neat folds. Ourahmane's practice focuses on community impact, having previously invited locals to use MACBA's space and composed a tactile sonic piece for visually impaired singers at Castello di Rivoli. The exhibition runs until 22 November.
