Lulù Nuti and Floating Beauty Design Double-Sided Palio for Foligno's Quintana

For the first time in its history, the Palio della Rivincita of the Giostra della Quintana in Foligno will be a double-sided banner shaped like a gauntlet. The 2025 edition, scheduled for September 13-14, features artists Lulù Nuti (Rome, 1988) and Floating Beauty (Simone Testi), who collaborated during a residency in July. Their work, titled "Il Guanto della rivincita," incorporates a serigraphic print of Salvo's 1974 painting "San Giorgio e il Drago," itself inspired by Raphael's work. The banner is sewn as an enormous challenge glove, symbolizing authority, trust, and gift rather than confrontation. The artists involved the Associazione Elle Elle, a cooperative supporting people with disabilities, transforming its spaces into an inclusive workshop from July 21-25. Director Alejandro Cifuentes documented the process for a film on Nuti. The project continues a tradition started in 2014, coordinated by art historian Marta Silvi and collector Pier Luigi Metelli, commissioning contemporary painters for the palios. Previous artists include Adelaide Cioni, Thomas Braida, Matteo Fato, Dario Agati, Flavio Favelli, Diego Miguel Mirabella, and Roberto de Pinto. The June 2025 tournament featured Andrea Polichetti, who returned from China and created a stylized design of three lances piercing rings, inspired by palios won by Paolo Giusti in 1965 and 1973.
