Luke Jerram's Museum of the Moon Installed at Milan's Historic Piscina Cozzi

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Luke Jerram's traveling installation Museum of the Moon, a 7-meter-diameter illuminated sculpture reproducing lunar surface at 1:500,000 scale using NASA cartography, will be installed at Milan's Piscina Cozzi from June 15 to 23. The pool, designed by engineer Luigi Secchi and opened in 1934, is the headquarters of the Italian Swimming Federation. Visitors can swim under the moon during regular hours, with two white nights on June 15 and 22 extending swimming until 4 AM. The work has previously been exhibited in France, Belgium, the UK, India, and China. Milanosport president Chiara Bisconti expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting it aligns with the organization's mission to create unique experiences through sport and art. Jerram stated the moon has historically inspired artists, poets, scientists, writers, and musicians worldwide, and the installation's meaning shifts depending on its context.
