Luiz Martins' 'Ogunhê' exhibition at Galeria Base explores ritual, memory through immersive installation
São Paulo's Galeria Base is set to showcase 'Ogunhê,' the most extensive solo exhibition by Luiz Martins, which includes approximately 40 new creations such as drawings, paintings, sculptures, objects, and video installations. The exhibition opens on March 7 and will be available from March 10 to April 18, 2024. Curated by Daniel Maranhão, with a critical text contributed by Priscyla Gomes, the display is split into two sections: Nascimento (Birth) and Purificação (Purification). The first section incorporates earth materials, while the second utilizes coarse salt to foster visitor engagement. Born in 1970 in Machacalis, Minas Gerais, Martins delves into themes of history and identity through his intricate works. The title alludes to the orixá Ogum, representing transformative actions. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 19:00, and Saturday from 10:00 to 15:00 at Rua Artur de Azevedo, 493.
