Luisa Rabbia's Infernal Drawings at The Drawing Hall in Bergamo

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Luisa Rabbia (Turin, 1970) presents nine large new works at The Drawing Hall, an independent space near Bergamo dedicated to contemporary drawing. The exhibition, titled 'The Inferno, Broken in Nine Pieces,' opened on September 9, 2022, and runs through October 1, 2022. Curated by Veronica Santi, the series uses wax pastels and tempera on paper, depicting Luciferian ribcages that evoke earthly hells: impotence, loneliness, anxiety, abuse, war, separation, unwanted child, loss, and injustice. The works reference Sandro Botticelli's 'Voragine Infernale' for Dante's Inferno, but replace sinners with victims of life. The blue gradients and hand motifs signify a broken line. This is an international preview; the drawings will be shown at Peter Blum Gallery in New York in February 2023, where Rabbia has exhibited since 2011. The project includes a documentary by Marco Marcassoli (co-founder of The Drawing Hall with Andrea Mastrovito and Walter Carrera) produced by Yanzi srl, and a fourth Quaderno publication with Santi's text. The space has previously hosted exhibitions by Mastrovito, Stefano Arienti, and Gian Maria Tosatti.
