Luis Goytisolo, novelist of knowledge, dies at 89

Luis Goytisolo, the final representative of the Goytisolo literary lineage, has passed away. He was born in Barcelona in 1935 and began his writing career in the 1950s, debuting with 'Las afueras' (1958), which earned him the inaugural Premio Biblioteca Breve. His literary contributions challenged traditional novel forms and brought forth notable changes in social realism. In 1960, Goytisolo was imprisoned for four months following a Communist Party congress in Prague, an event that incited international protests led by his brother Juan. His tetralogy 'Antagonía' (1973-1981) examined the interplay between life and storytelling. Later works included 'Estatua con palomas' (1993) and the essay 'Naturaleza de la novela' (2013). He established the Fundación Luis Goytisolo in 1993 and joined the Real Academia Española in 1994.
