Luigi Presicce's Homo sapiens sapiens sapiens at RizzutoGallery Palermo
Following a summer exhibition with Francesco Lauretta at San Sebastiano Contemporary – Casa Bramante in Palazzolo Acreide, Luigi Presicce (born 1976 in Porto Cesareo) returns to Sicily with a solo show at RizzutoGallery in Palermo. Titled Homo sapiens sapiens sapiens, the exhibition presents a pantomime in painting form that critically reveals Presicce's imaginary: an ideal world or hypothetical future scenario animated by ape-men representing the possible evolution (or involution) of contemporary humans. These beings coexist without contradiction between masculine and feminine, vice and virtue, malice and innocence, possessing an other (or higher?) awareness revealed only to the artist. Presicce acts as director and intermediary—almost like a shaman—between Homo sapiens sapiens and his Homo sapiens sapiens sapiens, rendering this surreal (or surrealist?) dimension with hypnotic, psychedelic, and unsettling verve. The artist uses fluorescent greens, fuchsias, and oranges to shape his canvases, two-dimensional tableaux vivants that invite viewers to leap—or evolve—into their world.
