Luigi Presicce and Annalisa Macagnino Star in Art Documentary on Saint Joseph

other · 2026-05-05

A 16-minute documentary titled 'Giuseppe che sapeva volare' (Joseph Who Knew How to Fly) explores the contemporary reinterpretation of Saint Joseph of Copertino by artists Luigi Presicce and Annalisa Macagnino. Produced by Apulia Film Commission, written and conceived by creative producer Lara Castrignanò, and directed by Luca Cucci (born 1988 in Brindisi), the film documents the creation of two artworks: Presicce's performance 'Per il volto di Maria' and Macagnino's six-panel installation 'Fai leggier ogni peso grave'. Set in the Salento landscape, the documentary blends reality, mysticism, and surreal visions. Macagnino emphasized the sublimation of matter through graphic works and a small lead solid obtained by fusion. Presicce described his work as a sentimental homage to Saint Joseph, rooted in childhood memories of attending the saint's festival and recurring dreams of flying. Cucci, making his art documentary debut, aimed to observe the artists' processes with an invisible camera, acting as a 'worker director' in service of art. The film was screened at Cinema Massimo in Turin.
