Luigi Pericle Retrospective at Fondazione Querini Stampalia During Venice Biennale

exhibition · 2026-05-04

In 2016, Andrea and Greta Biasca-Caroni purchased Casa San Tomaso in Ascona, which included works by Luigi Pericle (1916–2001). To honor his legacy, they established the Archivio Luigi Pericle in 2018. Pericle, who created the comic strip character Max the Marmot, resided in Ascona and became well-known while keeping his comic endeavors distinct under the pseudonym Giovannetti. His artistic contributions received recognition from critic Herbert Read and curator Hans Hess, and his work was displayed alongside artists such as Picasso at Arthur Tooth & Sons Gallery in London. Following his passing, he became less recognized. A significant retrospective titled "Luigi Pericle (1916-2001)_Beyond the visible" is set to take place at Fondazione Querini Stampalia in Venice from May 11 to November 24, 2019.
