Luigi Noah De Angelis Named Artistic Director of Santarcangelo Festival
Luigi Noah De Angelis has been appointed artistic director of the Santarcangelo Festival for the 2027-2029 editions, succeeding Tomasz Kireńczuk. The appointment was made by the board of Santarcangelo dei Teatri, chaired by Giovanni Boccia Artieri and including Ludovica Parmeggiani and Zoe Baldazzi, through a direct invitation rather than a public call. De Angelis, co-founder with Chiara Lagani of the Ravenna-based company Fanny & Alexander, will take office in August 2026 after the 56th edition of the festival, which will be Kireńczuk's last. Kireńczuk is moving to Vienna to direct BRUT, a production center and performance space. The board cited De Angelis's multidisciplinary experience across theater, music, and visual arts, and his ability to foster collective experiences and dialogue between bodies, sound, and space. De Angelis plans to conceive the festival as a "forest of gazes," a curatorial ecosystem connecting local and international scenes without hierarchies. Born in Brussels in 1974, De Angelis is a director, set designer, light designer, video maker, and electronic composer. His works include Lumen (2016) and Grand Bois (2021) presented at Santarcangelo. In 2024, he made his feature film debut produced by Bilico (Brussels).
