Luigi Ghirri's Puglia photographs collected in new MACK book

publication · 2026-04-27

A new book, 'Puglia. Tra albe e tramonti', collects Luigi Ghirri's photographs of the Puglia region, taken between 1982 and the early 1990s. Published by London-based MACK, the volume features many previously unseen images, curated by Ghirri's daughter Adele. The project originated from a 1982 exhibition curated by Gianni Leone, but the accompanying book was never realized until now. Ghirri first visited Puglia in 1982, often accompanied by friends including photographers Jacques Berthet and Claude Nori, and musicians Lucio Dalla and Ron. The book is designed without captions, allowing the images to speak for themselves. An exhibition at the Fondazione Pino Pascali accompanies the publication. Adele Ghirri explains that the decision to work with MACK was based on quality and international distribution, continuing a collaboration that includes previous volumes like 'Kodachrome' and 'The Complete Essays'. The book includes 288 pages and is priced at €55.
