Luigi Ghirri's Dutch Polaroids Debut at Centro Pecci
An exhibition of Luigi Ghirri's polaroids, shot in the Netherlands between 1980 and 1981, is on view at the Centro per l'arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci in Prato until May 10. The series, created during a trip to Polaroid's European headquarters in Amsterdam, marks the first institutional presentation of these works in Italy. Curated by Chiara Agradi (Fondation Cartier, Paris) and Stefano Collicelli Cagol (director of Centro Pecci), the show features 18 large-format polaroids (50 cm to 1 meter) constructed with objects and preparatory interventions, plus about 70 small-format 8×8 cm polaroids depicting Modena, Rome, Capri, Alto Adige, and Puglia. Ghirri used a 20×24 Instant Land Camera for the Amsterdam images, creating metaphysical, conceptual tableaux that blend still life with neo-surrealism. The small-format works form a miniature travelogue of Italy, capturing fleeting moments with directness. The exhibition is titled 'Luigi Ghirri. Polaroid ’79–’83'.
