Luigi Crocenzi's photo-stories on show in Fermo

exhibition · 2026-04-26

A retrospective at the Terminal Mario Dondero in Fermo explores Luigi Crocenzi's pioneering role in photo-storytelling and photography as a visual language. Curated by Marco Andreani and Pacifico D'Ercoli, the exhibition presents unpublished materials including photo-stories, documents, correspondence, scripts, and photographs from Crocenzi's career. Crocenzi founded the Centro per la Cultura nella Fotografia (CCF) in Fermo in 1954 with Alvaro Valentini, promoting photography as a sequence of images equivalent to written text. Highlights include Ugo Mulas's complete 26-photo sequence for the TV program Telescuola, inspired by Eugenio Montale's poem, and an unpublished 1968 documentary on Mario Giacomelli scripted by Crocenzi. The display features black-and-white images on brick walls and panels with captions, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Crocenzi's diverse world.
