Ludovica Gioscia on Ceramics, Collaboration with Nature, and Time
Ludovica Gioscia, born in Rome in 1977, has been residing in London since the late 1990s and has integrated ceramics into her artistic practice since 2012. She reflects on how her studio work challenges conventional notions of time. Her 2006 series, Giant Decollages, involved the layering of wallpapers, reminiscent of archaeological digs. In 2013, she showcased 'Mineral Rush Flamingo Crush' at Galleria Mangiabarche, featuring ceramic tiles crafted from local industrial waste. Gioscia's 'dream fossils' include 'Funghi, Piselli e Panna' from 2016. During a 2019 residency at Launch Pad Lab in France, she collaborated with an oak tree for her exhibition 'The Tenderness Of Insects' at VITRINE gallery. Her show 'Arturo And The Vertical Sea' at Baert Gallery included pieces featuring her cat, Arturo. She also took part in the 2017 residency 'Materia Montelupo,' which led to an exhibition at Palazzo Podestarile. This interview is part of 'Gli artisti e la ceramica' on Artribune, conducted by Irene Biolchini.
