Ludovica Carbotta inaugurates new Biennale pavilion at Forte Marghera

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The new pavilion of the Venice Biennale, located in the gunpowder magazine of Forte Marghera, opens with a special project by Ludovica Carbotta. Carbotta is one of two Italian artists in the international exhibition curated by Ralph Rugoff, and she also exhibits in the Arsenale. Her works are part of Monowe, a work in progress begun in 2016, which was also the subject of a major solo show recently inaugurated at the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin. The 2019 edition of the Biennale Arte, directed by Rugoff, officially opens with this project. At the opening ceremony were Biennale president Paolo Baratta, who announced that Forte Marghera will also host electronic music as part of the Biennale's many facets; the mayor of Venice, who delivered a wide-ranging speech with surreal elements; and the artist herself.
