Lucio Fontana Retrospective Opens at Met Breuer with Concurrent Shows Across New York
At the Met Breuer, the Metropolitan Museum of Art showcases "Lucio Fontana: On the Threshold," marking the first major retrospective of the Italian-Argentine artist in the U.S. in over 40 years, open until April 14, 2019. Curated by Iria Candela in collaboration with the Fondazione Lucio Fontana, the exhibition displays more than 80 pieces created between 1931 and 1968, featuring early works such as "Campione Olimpionico (Atleta in Attesa)" (1932) and ceramics. Notable pieces include the "Concetto Spaziale" cuts and neon installations inspired by New York. Additionally, El Museo del Barrio presents Fontana's "Spatial Environment" (1968), while the Italian Cultural Institute features "Spatial Explorations," showcasing 23 works, including four by Fontana, through March 6, 2019.
