Lucio Fontana ceramics exhibition in Albissola marks 50th death anniversary
The town of Albissola is hosting a major exhibition of Lucio Fontana's ceramics to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death. The show is centered at the MuDA museum, with works from the MIC in Faenza, and extends to Pozzo Garitta, where Fontana had his studio and home from 1947 to around 1960, and to the Ceramiche Mazzotti factory, which displays his Ritratto di Esa Mazzotti and the monumental Coccodrillo e serpente from 1936. Fontana, founder of Spatialism, worked in Albissola from the late 1930s to the 1960s, producing figurative maiolica and terracotta pieces—sculptures, reliefs, plates—and later informal works from his Concetti spaziali series.
