Lucio Fontana and Osvaldo Borsani's Collaborative Ceiling Reconstructed in Rome

exhibition · 2026-04-27

A ceiling originally created in 1949 for Casa G. in Milan by architect Osvaldo Borsani and artist Lucio Fontana has been reconstructed at Galleria Mattia De Luca in Rome. The exhibition 'Lucio Fontana/Osvaldo Borsani' opened on October 21, 2020, at the gallery's venue in Palazzo Albertoni Spinola. The ceiling exemplifies the fusion of Fontana's Baroque and Spatialist research with Borsani's minimalist, technological approach. The show also features furniture pieces such as the Bar Unit (1949) and a D70 sofa (1954), along with Fontana's ceramic sculptures including 'Granchio' (1936), 'Seppia' (1937), and 'Testa di Medusa' (1947-50). A portrait bust of Alba Borsani (1948-49) in glazed terracotta is displayed. The exhibition concludes with preliminary studies for the balcony of Palazzo Tecno in Milan (1950), where Fontana drew forms inspired by Hans Arp. Gallerist Mattia De Luca expressed interest in future reconstructions, including the first Tecno store on Via del Babuino.
