Lucio Del Pezzo, Italian artist of Visual Boxes, dies at 86
Lucio Del Pezzo, an artist from Naples renowned for his 'Visual Box' creations, passed away at the age of 86. In 1958, he co-founded the Gruppo 58 neo-avant-garde and, alongside Enrico Baj and Nanni Balestrini, signed the Manifeste de Naples in 1959. After relocating to Milan in 1960, he had a solo exhibition hosted by Arturo Schwarz. Del Pezzo introduced the term 'Visual Box' to describe his unique works. He moved to Paris in 1965, taking over Max Ernst's studio, and held his inaugural solo show there in 1968. He participated in the 1966 Venice Biennale and worked as a graphic designer during the 1970s. Major retrospectives took place in Parma (1970) and Milan (1974). He returned to Italy in 1979 and later taught at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Milano.
