Luciano Feijão's 'Greve Negra Já!' Exhibition at MAES Critiques Black Labor and Racial Domination

exhibition · 2026-04-19

From February 24 to April 26, the Museu de Arte do Espírito Santo (MAES) in Vitória, Brazil, presents 'Greve Negra Já!' curated by Renato Lopes and featuring the work of Luciano Feijão. This exhibition showcases drawings and installations that interrogate the historical narratives surrounding the Black body, addressing themes of labor exploitation, the production of capitalist value, and institutional violence. It underscores the contributions of the Black working class to wealth generation while also pointing out their marginalization from it. The exhibition advocates for the strike as a means of enacting radical change and reflects on the legacies of enslavement. Additionally, educational initiatives, including workshops led by arte-educator Karenn Amorim, will take place, organized by Elaine Pinheiro in partnership with Movimento Grevista Negro.
