Lucia Pietroiusti curates third edition of 8 albe video art festival in Sicily
The 8 albe video art festival, now in its third edition, commenced on July 31 at Dimora delle Balze in Val di Noto, Sicily. Under the curation of Lucia Pietroiusti, the festival centers on the theme 'Tramonti: cosmogonie e fine dei mondi' (Sunsets: cosmogonies and the end of worlds), delving into ecological and existential shifts. The event includes four evening screenings on July 31, August 7, 21, and 28, showcasing works from 16 international artists, such as the Brazilian group Selvagem, Agnieszka Polska, Camille Henrot, and others. The program contrasts 'tramonti' (How We Ended) with 'albe' (How We Began), embodying cyclical and linear concepts of time. Pietroiusti, who has engaged with art and ecology for over ten years, selected familiar collaborators, including Lina Lapelyte from the 2019 Lithuanian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. The opening night also featured a performance by Marcus Coates. Pietroiusti likens art to a bridge, referencing Alex Cecchetti's novel 'Tamam Shud': 'Poetry is like a bridge... the important thing is to be suspended over what was impossible to cross.'
