Lucia Pietroiusti and Filipa Ramos to Curate 8th Biennale Gherdëina in Italian Dolomites

Lucia Pietroiusti and Filipa Ramos will curate the 8th Biennale Gherdëina, scheduled from May to September 2022 in Ortisei, Italy. Titled 'Persons, Persone, Personen', the edition engages with the South Tyrol region's Ladin, Italian, and German languages, focusing on personhood in wildlife and landscapes. The biennale commissions artists to display works across Ortisei and the Val Gardena valley's natural surroundings. Pietroiusti, curator of General Ecology at London's Serpentine Galleries, curated the Lithuanian Pavilion's Golden Lion-winning 'Sun & Sea (Marina)' at the 2019 Venice Biennale and co-curated the 13th Shanghai Biennale in 2021. She will also curate a Helsinki Festival section on artificial and more-than-human intelligences with James Bridle. Ramos, a Lisbon-born writer and curator based in London, co-founded Vdrome, lectures at Central Saint Martins and Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Basel, and edited art agenda and Manifesta Journal. She curated 'Animalesque' at Bildmuseet Umeå and BALTIC, Gateshead, and collaborated with Pietroiusti on Serpentine Galleries' 'The Shape of a Circle in the Mind of a Fish' symposia. The curators aim to explore Earth's rights and memories of migration in the Dolomites region.
