Lucia Pietroiusti and Filipa Ramos to Curate 2028 Bergen Assembly

Lucia Pietroiusti and Filipa Ramos have been appointed curators for the 2028 edition of Bergen Assembly, a triennial event in Norway. The assembly originated from a 2009 conference that concluded the city should not host a traditional biennial but instead adopt a more flexible model. A prelude to their exhibition, a conference on 'matters of technology and ecstasy', will take place in September. The duo's potential themes include dances, prayers, cats, robots, myths, snakes, rhythms, algorithms, death, tenderness, friction, contemplation, playing, crying, the unbearable, rituals, systems, and sleep. Since 2018, Ramos and Pietroiusti have collaborated on 'The Shape of a Circle in the Mind of a Fish', an ongoing project exploring consciousness and more-than-human intelligence through exhibitions, seminars, and publications. A 2025 publication under the same title was coedited by them. Their joint curatorial projects include the 8th Biennale Gherdëina (2022), the first Klima Biennale Wien (2025), and the 13th Shanghai Biennale (2020) with Marina Otero Verzier and Mi You under Andrés Jaque's artistic direction. Ramos will also curate the 19th Lofoten International Art Festival across the Norwegian arctic archipelago in June 2027.
