Lucia Pescador's Botanical Room in Milan
The project Giardini Domestici, conceived by Claudia Zanfi/Green Island for Artribune, explores nature and vegetation in domestic spaces and artist studios. It features the botanical room of artist Lucia Pescador in Milan. Pescador began her artistic career in 1965, creating wall installations using drawing, painting, photography, and ceramics. In the 1990s she started her best-known project, Inventario del Novecento con la mano sinistra, a collection of images and drawings on 20th-century art and culture using old notebooks, papers, and maps. Her passion for botany stems from childhood visits to greenhouses and gardens with her grandmother, and a desire to study at the Scuola di Agraria (then closed to women). She translates this into art through collections of woods, flowers, fungi, and leaves turned into artist herbariums. At the Musei Civici di Padova, her largest solo exhibition in a public institution, Botanikum, runs until September 15, gathering about 500 works, mainly drawings on paper, acetates, photographs, and collages. Notable are installations created specifically for Palazzo Zuckermann celebrating nature's beauty and forms.
