Lucca Comics & Games Returns Live After Covid-Free Edition

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

After the 2020 'Covid-free' edition Lucca ChanGes, which moved the festival online and to RAI, Lucca Comics & Games returns to the city of Lucca for a live in-person event from October 29 to November 1, 2021. The festival will enforce safety measures including a daily cap of 20,000 visitors with nominal tickets available only via online presale. The event is organized into districts: Piazza Napoleone remains the central hub for comics, with Palazzo Ducale and the Palazzetto dello Sport (returning after 15 years) also hosting; gaming takes place at Real Collegio and Cavallerizza; Japan-themed events at Polo Fiere; and Music & Cosplay at San Francesco complex. Digital streaming, Campfire events nationwide, RAI media partnership, and the Off Program continue to allow remote participation. Director Emanuele Vietina emphasized the emotional significance of returning to physical presence. Notably, a collaboration with the Galleria degli Uffizi will permanently display over fifty self-portraits of comic masters in a dedicated space directed by Eike Schmidt.
