Lucca Comics & Games 2023: Europe's Biggest Comic Festival Returns with Global Lineup
Lucca Comics & Games, Europe's largest comic festival, returns from November 1-5, 2023, with the theme 'Together'. The event, which started in 1993, drew a record 290,000 visitors last year. This edition features over 300 artists from 45 countries, including Japanese manga stars Naoki Urasawa, Hiro Mashima, Mingwa, Masaaki Ninomiya, Usamaru Furuya, and Kan Takahama; Anglo-American creators Bryan Talbot, Declan Shalvey, Jesse Jacobs, Joe Kelly, and Ken Niimura; Franco-Belgian talents Jordi Lafebre, David Rubin, Elizabeth Pich, Bastien Vivès, and Martin Quenehen; and over 250 Italian artists such as Gipi, Milo Manara, Leo Ortolani, Zerocalcare, Sio, Silvia Ziche, and Paolo Bacilieri. The festival poster is by Israeli brothers Asaf Hanuka and Tomer Hanuka. Exhibitions include a double show at Palazzo Ducale featuring the Hanukas, a retrospective of Dino Battaglia at Chiesa dei Servi, and a showcase of AkaB's work at Palazzo Ducale. The 'Fumetti nei Musei' project returns with 17 new comic albums by artists including Maurizio Lacavalla, Sarah Mazzetti, Rita Petruccioli, and Lorenzo Mattotti, accompanied by an exhibition at Palazzo Ducale curated by Mattia Morandi, Simona Cardinali, and Chiara Palmieri. The event spans over 45,000 square meters of exhibition space, 10% more than 2022.
