Lucca Biennale Rebrands, Focuses on Paper Art with China as Guest Country

The ninth edition of the Lucca Biennale, previously known as Cartasia, is set to take place in Lucca, Italy, from August 4 to September 27, 2018. Organized by Metropolis and the Comune di Lucca, this year's theme is 'Caos e Silenzio.' Now titled Lucca Biennale – Paper | Art | Design, the event emphasizes the city's rich paper-making history. China is the featured guest country, presenting its artists through various talks, events, and a cardboard architecture pavilion created in collaboration with Tongji University and Tsinghua University. Awards will be presented, including an honorable mention for British sculptor James Lake, celebrated for his cardboard creations. The Outdoor Exhibition will showcase large sculptures, while the Palazzo Ducale will host video art in the Art Indoor section, alongside performances, children's activities, and a three-day conference.
