Lucas Harari's Graphic Novel 'L'Attrazione' Previewed on Artribune

publication · 2026-05-04

French artist Lucas Harari (born 1990 in Paris) releases his graphic novel 'L'Attrazione' (Coconino Press, Rome, 2018, 152 pages, €23, ISBN 9788876183799). The story follows Pierre, an architecture student obsessed with visiting the Therme Vals in Switzerland, designed by Peter Zumthor in the 1990s in a small valley in the Grisons mountains. Pierre is captivated by the harmony between the building's geometric forms and the mountain landscape. As he explores the labyrinthine spa spaces, he learns a local legend: near the Vals thermal spring lies a secret passage, a chasm in the stone that exerts a mysterious pull and, once every hundred years, devours a 'stranger.' Harari's graphic style draws from the clear line tradition of Hergé, Ted Benoit, and Yves Chaland, with influences from American authors Charles Burns, Chris Ware, and Daniel Clowes. Using few cold colors and unsettling shadows, the book creates a fantastic, magical atmosphere. The book will be in bookstores from July 26. The preview includes the first pages.
