Lucamaleonte unveils 'Ave Cesare' triptych at Testaccio market in Rome

other · 2026-05-05

On July 13, 2017, to coincide with the release of 'The War – Il Pianeta delle Scimmie' by 20th Century Fox Italia, an Open Day was organized at the Mercato di Testaccio in Rome. The event, a collaboration with Honiro Label and NuFactory, featured street artist Lucamaleonte (born 1983 in Rome) who inaugurated his triptych 'Ave Cesare' dedicated to the film's protagonist, Caesar. The artwork merges three scanned drawings into a single face, combining the Roman emperor Caesar with the ape Caesar from the film. The central image unites the two faces, highlighting their similarities despite apparent differences. Lucamaleonte explained that the piece explores contrasts between nature, species, and races, as well as the fear of the unknown. He described both Caesars as heroes and antiheroes, reflecting the complexity of leadership. The artist noted that he limits his street work to three or four days per wall to maintain freshness. He cited Paolo Uccello as his artistic hero, admiring his innovative use of perspective, alongside Hieronymus Bosch.
