Luca Vitone and Marco Palmieri Reimagine Villa Belgiojoso's Archives

exhibition · 2026-05-05

For the 2016 edition of Sincronie, Villa Belgiojoso Brivio Sforza in Merate invited artists Luca Vitone (Genoa, 1964) and Marco Palmieri (Naples, 1969) to reinterpret its historical archives. The duo explored the collection, which spans centuries of documents, and created an installation in the limonaia overlooking the villa's park. Their work engages with garden models from the 17th-century Baroque, 18th-century Italian, and Romantic eras, using original drawings, watercolours, and prints to contrast the current architectural state. Vitone placed an audio device inside a hollow Liquidambar trunk, playing unpublished music composed by Prince Emilio di Belgiojoso, performed by baroque harpist Loredana Gintoli and soprano Anna Carbonera. Palmieri designed a landscape intervention along a path in the park, continuing the site's historical garden traditions while proposing a new function. The exhibition runs until October 29, 2016, curated by Carlotta Testori. Free guided tours are available by reservation.
