Luca Trevisani's 'Sudan' Premieres at Expo Chicago 2016

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

Luca Trevisani's film 'Sudan' had its US premiere on September 24, 2016, at Expo Chicago, presented in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. The work, produced by Lo Schermo dell'Arte Film Festival in association with Marsèll and 999 Films, is an introspective portrait of the last captive male white rhinoceros in Nairobi, Kenya. The animal, protected by armed guards from poachers who sell its horn in China as an aphrodisiac, is unable to reproduce, symbolizing the extinction of its species. Trevisani describes 'Sudan' as a mysterious encounter highlighting Earth's fragility and humanity's transformation of the environment, blending natural and cultural history. The screening is part of Expo Chicago 2016, the fifth edition of the international contemporary art fair at Navy Pier, featuring 140 galleries from around the world with a focus on emerging art. Italian participants include Luce Gallery from Turin and Eduardo Secci Contemporary from Florence. The fair also announced a partnership with the Palais de Tokyo in Paris for a special talk and event program during the 2017 edition, coinciding with the Architecture Biennial in Chicago. The film will later screen in Florence at Lo Schermo dell'Arte festival and in Milan at Trevisani's solo show at Marsèlleria.
