Luca Trevisani's 'Sudan' at MARSÈLLERIA, Milan

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Luca Trevisani (Verona, 1979) presents a solo exhibition at MARSÈLLERIA in Milan, titled after the last surviving male northern white rhinoceros, Sudan. The show runs until November 25, 2016. Trevisani's work contrasts with Albrecht Dürer's famous 1515 woodcut of a rhinoceros, which was based on a written description and contained anatomical inaccuracies. Instead, Trevisani proceeds inductively from direct photographic observation of the last white rhino's folds, concretions, and protections. The exhibition also features floral prints from ancient herbaria on stockings and decorative molecules on dried leaves, creating a garden in decay. A film documenting the journey to Sudan is set to be added after its European premiere at the upcoming Lo Schermo dell'Arte Film Festival in Florence.
