Luca Sivelli's Fish Tank Social Experiment at BoCs Museum

exhibition · 2026-04-27

On January 28, 2023, the BoCs Museum in Cosenza, directed by Marilena Cerzoso, opened its third installment of the Ceilings project in collaboration with the Accademia di Belle Arti di Catanzaro. The immersive exhibition features Luca Sivelli (born 1974 in Naples), who after two decades collaborating with Luigi Moio as Moio&Sivelli, presents his first solo work. Titled 'Nice People Nice Party,' the project is a year-long observation of a fish colony in an aquarium, exploring parallels between fish behavior and human social organization. In a dark room, an empty black aquarium sits before a high-definition screen showing a video installation. Sivelli created three human scenarios—a disco, a cinema, and a photo exhibition—to which the fish responded with curiosity, recognition, and retreat. The walls display canvases made from dehydrated fish waste, evoking wave and shell patterns. A large white bowl with dehydrated waste invites tactile exploration.
