Luca Pancrazzi on Ceramics: From Albissola Biennials to 'Paesaggio Minuto'
Luca Pancrazzi (b. 1961, Figline Valdarno) discusses his lifelong engagement with ceramics, from a 1982 early work to recent 'Paesaggio Minuto' series. He participated in the first two editions of the Biennale della Ceramica di Albissola (2001 and 2003), organized by Tiziana Casapietra and Roberto Costantino. In 2001, he presented illegible identity cards and tax codes in ceramic, reflecting on identity and the political context of the G8 protests in Genoa. For the 2003 edition, he collaborated with ceramist Rivo Barsotti (nicknamed Rivoluzionario) to create an installation at the disused rationalist station of Vado Ligure, featuring the phrase 'La distanza è sicurezza' (Distance is safety), referencing Umberto Boccioni's works 'Gli addii', 'Quelli che vanno' and 'Quelli che restano'. His early terracotta works 'Figulina' and 'La mia casa sulla montagna' explore landscape and identity, rooted in the local tradition of figurines. The 'Paesaggio Minuto' series, begun during a summer at Made In Filandia, consists of small, quickly modeled landscapes glazed or patinated with iron oxide, created in moments of temporal rarefaction. The interview is part of Artribune's series 'Gli artisti e la ceramica' by Irene Biolchini.
