Luca Macauda's 'Iperchroma' at Paolo Maria Deanesi Gallery

Luca Macauda (Modica, 1979) presents 'Iperchroma', a solo exhibition at Paolo Maria Deanesi Gallery in Trento, featuring seven large-format paintings and a small cycle of works on sandpaper created with pigments and pastels. The works, made in 2022, explore color as pigment, applied with pastels to create a strong chromatic quality. The title 'Iperchroma' refers to chromatic quality and timbre, while 'chroma' denotes color as pigment, generating perceptual tension. The use of pastels causes color to implode gently on the canvas, creating an enveloping visual effect. Some works exhibit chromatic uniformity, while others feature seemingly endless sign overlays. The canvas surface becomes a landscape oscillating between calm and chaos until tension subsides. The exhibition was curated by Claudio Cucco, a philosopher and art critic from Malles Venosta (1954), now residing in Rovereto and director of the Biblioteca di Calliano.
