Luca Guadagnino's documentary on Salvatore Ferragamo hits Italian cinemas

Luca Guadagnino's documentary 'Salvatore – Il Calzolaio dei Sogni', presented at the 77th Venice Film Festival, will be released in Italian cinemas as a special event on October 11, 12, and 13, distributed by Lucky Red. The film explores the life of Salvatore Ferragamo (1898-1960), a self-made shoemaker who became a global fashion icon. It features interviews with family members, director Martin Scorsese, costume designer Deborah Nadoolman Landis, and various scholars, designers, and critics. The narration is by actor Michael Stuhlbarg. The script was written by fashion journalist and author Dana Thomas. Cinematography is by Clarissa Cappellani and Massimiliano Kuveiller, editing by Walter Fasano, who previously worked with Guadagnino on 'Call Me by Your Name' and 'Suspiria'. Guadagnino was inspired by Ferragamo's autobiography, particularly the preface where Ferragamo emphasizes the importance of perfect shoemaking and the pleasure of walking well. The director sees Ferragamo as a genius who embodies the fusion of obsessive creativity with family tradition and values.
