Luca Granato and Michela Rondinone Explore Memory and Fragments in Matera
The Momart Gallery in Matera presents 'Remain(s)', a two-person exhibition featuring Luca Granato (born 1999, Cosenza) and Michela Rondinone (born 1999, Matera, lives and works in Bari), curated by Antonella Marino. The show runs until May 26, 2026, at Via Madonna dell'Idris, 5 and 7. The exhibition examines the concept of the fragment as both a sign of collective memory and a germinal potential. The title 'Remain(s)' refers to material remains, ruins, what resists cancellation, and the conscious choice to stay in one's homeland. Rondinone's practice is rooted in play, childhood, and relational dynamics; her works include 'Trama di casa' (2021), a wearable sculpture of stone and string, and 'Tessere del tempo' (2025), a constellation of ceramic and textile fragments. Granato's poetics address loss, absence, and political issues such as depopulation in Southern Italy, migration, and climate change. His works include 'Self-Portrait in Ash' (2025), on returning to his birthplace, and the video 'Until You Learn My Name' (2025), which portrays the sea as a political and symbolic space of crossing and loss. The gallery is directed by Monica Palumbo.
