Luca De Leva Channels Arnaldo Badodi in 'Cavalli e madonne' at Collezione Giuseppe Iannaccone
The Giuseppe Iannaccone Collection presents the second installment of its 'In Pratica' project, featuring Milanese artist Luca De Leva (b. 1986) with the exhibition 'Cavalli e madonne. Sentimentalmente ispirato a Arnaldo Badodi.' The series of works on view emerged from De Leva's encounter with the work of Arnaldo Badodi, a member of the Corrente movement who died prematurely during World War II in Russia. De Leva approached Badodi's paintings—such as 'Il Circo' (1941), 'Il Caffè' (1940), and 'Soprabito sul divano' (1941)—purely visually, deliberately ignoring the scant critical apparatus surrounding the 20th-century painter. This conceptual choice, influenced by Jean Dubuffet's 'Asphyxiating Culture' and the writings of Félix Guattari, resulted in drawings and sculptures with a childlike, playful theme that embed micro-quotations from Badodi's works. The pieces are meant to be perceived, looked at, and internalized as a total visual experience. Curated by Rischa Paterlini, the exhibition runs until September 25, 2016, at the Collezione Giuseppe Iannaccone, Corso Matteotti 11, Milan.
