Luc Ming Yan's Solo Exhibition at Palazzo dei Musei in Reggio Emilia
The Palazzo dei Musei in Reggio Emilia hosts 'La tartaruga e il palombaro. Visioni tra natura e pittura', a solo exhibition by French artist Luc Ming Yan (b. 1994, Dijon), from December 19, 2024 to March 2, 2025. Curated by Alessandro Gazzotti with a text by Davide Ferri, the show features 48 oil-on-canvas works inspired by the natural history collections of the Collezione Spallanzani, particularly its zoology and anatomy specimens. Yan was struck by finds such as the whale fossil 'Valentina'. The exhibition is part of the museum's interdisciplinary approach linking archaeology, art, photography, and science. Yan's work oscillates between abstract magma-like compositions and figurative depictions of animals, skulls, and monstrous forms influenced by manga and pop culture. The artist, active between Paris and Shanghai, won the Premio Ernest Manganel and has exhibited at Le Consortium in Dijon and MAO in Turin. Two of his 2023 works, 'Midnight' and 'Time Walk', entered Le Consortium's permanent collection.
