Luana Vitra's Mineral Spirits Exhibition at Museu Paranaense Explores Poetic Metallurgy

exhibition · 2026-04-19

In October 2023, Luana Vitra's solo exhibition titled 'Aos espíritos minerais' debuted at the Museu Paranaense (MUPA) in Curitiba, Brazil, and will continue until March 2024 in the Sala Lange de Morretes. The exhibition showcases new sculptures and drawings crafted from iron, copper, lead, and clay, delving into the emotional aspects of minerals. Born in 1995 in Contagem, Minas Gerais, Vitra draws inspiration from her family's mining background. Among her notable works are 'Magma' and 'Exaustão da Terra.' Museum director Gabriela Bettega noted the difficulty of conveying Vitra's poetic vision within the museum's environment. Additionally, a book featuring writings by Hélio Menezes, Diane Lima, Denise Ferreira da Silva, and Valentine Umansky will be released in February. Vitra is the recipient of the 2023 Pipa Prize.
