Lu Yang's DOKU The Flow Opens K11 HACC in Shenzhen
K11 Art Foundation inaugurates K11 Hybrid Art and Cultural Centre (K11 HACC) in Shenzhen with Lu Yang's exhibition DOKU The Flow. Designed by David Chipperfield Architects, K11 HACC is a multi-purpose space combining retail, museum, and cultural programming. The exhibition features a single immersive installation incorporating stones, ocean, and vines, echoing the artist's previous presentations at Fondation Louis Vuitton and Mori Art Museum. Lu Yang discusses the karmic connection between the coastal location and the work's themes of fluidity and transformation, rooted in Buddhist Madhyamaka philosophy. The artist uses game engines, 3D technology, and AI as tools, emphasizing no distinction between physical, digital, and dream states. The character DOKU derives from the phrase 'dokusho dokushi' in the Sutra of Infinite Life, highlighting solitary existence and no-self doctrine. K11 HACC is part of the K11 ECOAST Art and Cultural District, a 228,500 sqm flagship project on Shenzhen's coast dedicated to green economy. During Hong Kong art week, K11 HACC announced the inaugural K11 Curator Prize winner: emerging curator collective Li Hanwei and Miao Zijin, recognized for integrating technology with curatorial practice. Li graduated from Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts; Miao holds an MFA in Curating from Goldsmiths, University of London. They will be supported by the K11 Art Foundation International Council.
